The Last Shipyard

A ‘ghost’ picture we put together for someone else but thought it could be shared here. Dyer & Son were using this shipyard during the 1870’s building ships of this size, the ‘Osman Pasha’ being the last, before it was taken over by Henry Stow and Sons then the Sussex Yacht Club

  1. I think the slipway at the bottom of East Street was used for hull cleaning and maintainance of the larger ships using Shoreham not shipbuilding. Stowes began building yachts c. 1860 but not large sailing vessels althhough they were involved in ship repair. Dyer and son were the last builders at the `Old Shipyard`c.1870 to 1880 situated behind and just east of the Bridge Hotel
