Help - looking for old pictures
« on: July 31, 2017, 10:27:28 pm »
Hi there,

I am looking for old photographs of the following, if anyone can help:

Hammy Lane, Shoreham in the 1950s
Mansell Road in the 1960s
Old Shoreham Road in the 1930s/40s
Hodges Shoe Repairers in the 1930s
Spurriers Bakery, Ham Road in the 1930s.

Many thanks in advance. Anything of assistance is desperately needed for family history.

Thanks,
Phil

We do have some 1930s photos Phil but would need to know more exactly where on OSR and where the shoe repairers were.

Thank you.

Hodge's shoe repairers was on Shoreham High Street. Spurriers Bakery was on Ham Road, Shoreham.

Weve loads of photos in all of those roads you mention Phil but most are older than the years you mention.  Hodges and Spurriers dont appear in our directories of the 193s/40s (although I do remember the name of Spurriers perhaps it was after 1940?) and their shop signs are not apparent in what must be 30 or 40 images we have of the roads they were in. Bear with us for a few weeks until we are able to load our entire photo collection and you can look for yourself.

Spurriers, may have been in Ham Road , prior to  1945, but most certainly I recall
it was located exactly on the Corner of Western Road, and Brunswick Road, opposite
LLoyds Bank, Warwick Bakers Estate  Agency, sits on the site . A most popular of Shoreham Bakers, my parents , got most of their bread from Spurriers.....
