Many having the Chinese,Indian and Pizza takeaways were nostalgic for the old, bland, British fare and wondered if an old fashioned English Restraunt/Takeaway could be opened ?

The Shoreham Christmas Tree lights are now installed and the frantic run up to the big day starts in ernest
.Looking ahead to Christmas eve I wonder how to spend it?

1.  Midnight Mass at St. Nicholas
2. A pre Christmas Bash
3. Or locked in the arms of Morpheus
 Decisions...Decisions !

I cannot remember what prompted this one...possibly when one of our posters was unfairly treated by the parking authority ?

Many times motoring was discussed on the forum and I speculated what driving today would be like in my first car.
Hand straps to hold onto if you navigated a bend in the road at 40mph.
No heater or means of de icing the windscreen
No flashing indicator or stop or reversing lights
No electric starter
No seat belts ( note; the compulsory use of these when introduced was strongly oposed by the motoring organisations !)
And a 30mpg fuel consumption ( and almost as much engine oil ! )
How times have changed !

One poster reported seeing plastic bags of dog deposit discarded in the bushes alongside a popular country walk and remarked on the well intentioned but stupidity of this practice.....I commented on the voluminous deposits that some small dogs can leave !

At last the nice white paving slabs were  laid in the East Street precinct. Comments were made on the durability and choice of them....I suggested that a new road sign be installed.

It was suggested that posters had a social ' get together' in a local hostelry...I think it was around Burns Night ?

This is the last of the cartoons that I can find which were posted on the old forum over a matter of years

You're right johnjohn, in fact a couple of the venues were the Crown and Anchor and the Lazy Toad (now Piston's Broke) in the High Street. Sadly there are one or two who have passed on - Carol Benati (I think her surname was) was one, an ex Shoreham resident in Italy. You and I are still around (just), Paul Osborne of course and so is dear old Chris Dowling was but it would be nice to know if any others are with this current group.
Our new website continues to do extremely well with the number of visitors and visits but unfortunately our forum is not what it was so for me your recent contributions are are all the more welcome!

In the past we had a go at drilling for oil which unfortunatly proved unsuccessful. However encouraged by the Cuadrilla results at Broadford Bridge it was decided to convert our drilling plant to Fracking against the wishes of Shoreham residents.

Some time back there was a World Oceans Day environmental exhibition on Coronation Green. One of the stalls there was about the threat of 'Peak Oil time' and how we should do what we could to conserve power and look for alternative sources.....I started to wonder...!
