Shoreham Discussion / Re: Old Photographs of Shoreham part 1

OK. I have increased the file size to 1600kb per image.  I have just tested adding an image to Nelson's post. It does appear to load correctly and did return me to the finished post and showed the image.

Hey All!

Paul, I still have the original pictures I took for Beach Green, Ferry Road, High Street and Ropetackle. You're welcome to re use them!  :)
Hi Old Bean,

I am glad you are back!   Yes I would very much like the photos.  Can you put them into an email(s) to me, or weTransfer or DropBox to me?   It would be useful to have a note of which properties they relate to, and general date.

The plan is to put them into a gallery and so we can do then and now comparison with those that have archive images... or indeed with present day images as yours will be 7 or so years ago.   I am just testing Gallery template options to see if we can migrate all the SBS images. Getting the functionality correct is important... so it may be a while.

Shoreham Discussion / Re: Queensville Bungalow

Hi Lofty,

Roger has dug out the following info:

The 1914 street directory shows ‘Queensville’ as being between ‘Kingsville’ and ‘Cecilia’ (Cecilia Loftus’ bungalow) in Old Fort Road. By 1917 ‘Queensville’ was replaced by ‘Shirley’ and/or ‘Neptunus’ (by the mid 1930’s ‘Shirley’ had been renamed ‘Wavecrest’)

‘Wavecrest ‘ is no.336 on the BT map and ‘Neptunus’ 337.

Hope that helps.

Roger

Hi Lofty,

Have you looked at Roger's maps?

As some ex posters are now active on Facebook, perhaps some of the photograph contributors could be contacted there?
Unfortunatly I don't have any recent photographs taken in the High Street
Facebook?  What's that then?

I suppose now is as good a time as any to publicise that the old SBS is up and walking again.   Maybe a call out to the street photos photographers would be a good start to get the old lurkers to visit.

Hello JohnJohn!

Welcome back.   I haven't been to Shoreham High Street for a few years, but it if it is anything like my local high street then it will be Coffee Shops, Opticians, and Charity Shops - and a fair sprinkling of here today - gone tomorrow businesses.     I think that was the value of the original Street Photos project in that so much has changed in just 10 years - Woolworths was still around in those days.

I see there are a few new registrations - a number of names I recognise from the old forum... please do post and say hello, and maybe offer a few suggestions about what you'd like to see in the new SBS forum and History Portal.

Shoreham Discussion / Street Photos Project

You may recall back in early 2009 we started the Shoreham Street Photos project- taking still photos of every shop and building in the principal streets.  It was a community effort and we divided the job of photographing the shops amongst 6 or 7 die hard forumites.   These were then uploaded in geographic order to the forum.   So far, we have not been able to recover those photos from the original installation of the Forum - which is a real shame as it was an interesting project and frustrating to have lost it.  The Archive doesn't save the images, and our attempts to recover the originals has been thwarted by a less than accommodating hosting company.

So my question is - does anyone have the original photos?  If so it would be great to recreate, in part, those streets of 2009.

Shoreham Discussion / Welcome to the Shoreham-by-Sea Forum

Welcome to the re-launched Shoreham-by-Sea Forum!

Please do register and contribute.

Many of you will have been members of the old SBS forum which ran from 2004 - 2016. We hope this new forum will be used and run on similar lines. Unfortunately the original forum has gone but is archived here as a read only snapshot:
http://www.shorehambysea.com/4123-2/

This forum will need initial registration to post- an all new registration, just for the forum and separate from Subscription to the main History Portal. (so don't try to use your SBS login if you have registered)  There are few anti-spam questions to answer.

Please do post on here on whatever topics you'd like to discuss.  For the moment it will be a single Forum but we may create sub-categories should the traffic dictate it. You will be able to post images into posts - but please re-size them to less than 1600kb, or post them to a third party and link (like CloudApp (my favourite) of the flaky ImageShack. Do not use PhotoBucket).

Copyrights:
Please do not post images unless you are permitted to under rights associated with the image.  Likewise, please do not copy and re-post images from the forum to other places on the web. This ensures original contributors feel free to contribute from their own collections without fear of copyright infringement.   If you wish to share images from the forum then the best way is to publish a link to the original rather than post the photos.

There is a useful Notify button at the top of Topics and Threads - this is the same as Subscription and allows you to follow a Thread or indeed the whole Forum (go back to the top level Shoreham Discussion and click Notify) - an email will be sent to you when a new post or reply is posted.

The site will be moderated, but the usual etiquette rules apply - please be nice.
