Sailing ship 'Vandalia' Wrecked, near Brighton, East Sussex 1889 PP_SHORM_89.981
This vessel from St.John’s, New Brunswick, Canada was run into by a steamer, the latter thought to be the Duke of Buccleuch which sank with all hands off Beachy Head. The Vandalia’s bows were severely damaged and the vessel beached off Brighton. She was refloated and taken to Shoreham for temporary repairs and then on to Southampton for more permanent repairs at J. Dible & Sons yard. Etching dated 7 March 1889.
