The best little guesthouse in Sussex, Wednesday, 02 September 2009 Written by Jayne from Nowhere near Shoreham - View all my reviews
The house that Ric built or Harper's Ferry is such a gem. The house is built in the American colonial style, complete with front porch and US mail box. The interior is beautifully appointed with Hopper portraits on the wall and much tasteful Americana. But, it was always going to be a tough gig for Ric to get our holiday right; firstly my husband is American, and we were also travelling with my frail 81 year old father and our two sons. Ric and Elaine could not have been more welcoming and the fact that we could have two rooms adjoining a single bathroom for our own exclusive use was brilliant. As for the bedrooms; gorgeous is great and they were; but comfort is king and the beds were difficult to raise oneself from. However, the knowledge that fresh fruit salad, warm croissants and scrambled eggs awaited downstairs was enough to stir even the most determined of us to snooze. I was lucky enough to get up early and catch a perfect British morning breaking across the beach which was a mere five minutes walk away. And the food was good throughout. Both nights of our stay we visited the lovely seafood restaurant, Into The Blue on the corner of Ric's street. Their hospitality was warm and friendly; and the food scrumptious. In short, we had an absolutely wonderful weekend, and can't wait for our next visit. And, yes, this should definitely be called the best little guesthouse in Sussex!
