Grants offered to Shoreham-by-Sea Voluntary Groups

Written by Candoo

The Adur Health and Wellbeing Partnership is offering grants to support the work of local voluntary and community organisations. Local groups working in ways that support the health and social care needs of people living in Adur can now apply for funding, made available by Adur District Council, West Sussex County Council and West Sussex Primary Care Trust - the statutory organisations represented on the Partnership.

The Health and Wellbeing Partnership is particularly keen to assist the provision of activities that support people living in the Adur wards of Churchill, Eastbrook, Hillside, Mash Barn, Peverel and Southlands, however, support for groups working in other parts of Adur will be considered. Voluntary and community organisations can apply for a grant of up to £2,500.

For older people the outcomes being sought by the Partnership include:
* The prevention of social breakdown and ill health
* Support for independent living
* Social inclusion through improved access to activities, social networks and services
* Wellbeing, an enhanced quality of life and a strengthening of local communities

For children, young people and families, the Partnership is keen to target funding towards:
* Improved family functioning, through support to parents and children and the development of healthier lifestyles within families
* The better inclusion of children and young people with special needs into mainstream activities
* Children and young people enabled to be more active participants in their local community, including volunteering
* Young carers and parent carers, young people and families from Black and Minority Ethnic Groups feeling better supported

"We’re committed to support the work of local voluntary and community groups,” said Councillor Jim Funnell on behalf of the Partnership. “We particularly want to focus help on where it’s most needed in Adur and in situations where there will be most benefit to local people.”

Applications to the Partnership should be made by 16th January 2009 - grants will be paid from next April.
