Street party

Bit of an inconvenience, but let's not spoil everyone else's fun.
I was somewhat taken aback though with the bit of paper poked through the door today which says I can BUY TICKETS for the party.
Buy tickets? To use the road outside my house? (Even though I can't use it for what I'd normally use it for?
I can think of two words, and the second one is "cough".
Is it just me? Am I being unreasonable?

Council has approved it, apparently.
Oh, and despite having to pay for tickets we're told to bring our own drinks, glasses, chairs...
It's ALMOST comical.

Just because the Council said it is so doesn't make it enforceable. what they going to do call the police and arrest you.
Shutting roads down is an expenses thing to do.

I expect so, if you pay!
The note today mentioned tickets, but in the spirit of great communication it doesn't mention the cost.

I can remember clearly preparations for the Coronation...we were in Bidston Dry Dock Liverpool ( Now filled in and occupied by a lot of poofy designer shops!) The Old Man ordered us Cadets to dress the ship overall which we did with International Code flags and wicked grins....unfortunatly he read the strings of foul and profane words spelled out so under dire threats we had to take the whole lot down and rapidly reconfigure them!

Midnight new years eve in Guzz; of course all the ships blowing they're whistles/horns etc (Not allowed to do that now as nimbies get upset).
After about ten minutes most stopped except one - ours!
We had to hunt high and low to find the circuit breaker but a couple of bottles of pussers finest probably didn't help - happy days

Just feels wrong having to pay to use the road outside my house!
On the other hand, because of the poor communication, I've no idea how much they actually want, or what they are spending it on.
I did get a "we're thinking of having a street party" note a couple of months ago, but nothing since then.

its not for using the road its for the party! Can onlky be a few quid. we did get an invite, but going to the one on the green in park avenue. I know youre not a royalist but its still a good excuse for a fun day on your doorstep that doesnt happen often.

This is a street party, not a business deal.

I kind of know what you mean - We're having one on Rosslyn Road, and while I was initially enthusiastic and happy to help. 'Name badges' and 'fun activities' have reared their ugly head. I'm happy to supply

Glad I moved out of Rosslyn Road then. Of course living on Buckingham Road, nobody talks to each other, so I'm safe on this one. Bah, humbug.
