Do hope that Sgt Rob and his team can make a difference
On a note regarding drinking real ale out of plastic containers that would be enough to keep some punters away.

Real ale and plastic glasses? That says everything about the event!

The Red Lion beer festival doesn't attract your usual hard core bearded CAMRA drinkers, more your local yoofs and students home for the holidays. They don't seem to be fussy what they drink out of.

So its not how the beer tastes, more like, how much they can get down their necks before they fall over festival

However, I don't know exactly why, but this year I have had no problem with it at all and it's not bothered me in the slightest - infact it was nice to see people enjoying themselves. Whether this is because of the not so great weather, or the scum bags have got fed up going, or the measures that the Police and Pub have put in place have worked this time I don't know. I suspect it's a mixture of all three.
I thought I saw security on the door (or gate), and presumably they have the ability to refuse entry to known trouble makers. Maybe this was the key?
in my opinion a good balance has now been struck and I just hope the following years are as well behaved as this years.

This is the first year we have had no problems with broken glass or yobs using our fence as a urinal. We only heard a handful of groups this year, they were loudish but not offensive, just normal 'happy!' people walking home.
One much happier resident!

£4 a pint might have had something to do with it

yep- a couple of mates went there and left when confronted with the £4 price tag. Mind you, its about £3.80 in the Crown for a pint now. No wonder people are into "pre-loading" these days (get a few in at home with friends before going on the town)

Yeah but isnt there going to be a minimum price per unit being introduced in supermarkets now also. Going to cost more to drink at home soon. I can see booze cruises coming back into fashion.
