I see the Red Lion has banners up stating Easter weekend there is a beer festival at the pub

Will anything be any different from last years, I understand causing a shed load of problems for their neighbors.

I believe its D Day for the neighbors of the Red Lion tonight, I can well see why the residents do not look forward to Easter with the the festive on their door step.

Do hope that Sgt Rob and his team can make a difference

On a note regarding drinking real ale out of plastic containers that would be enough to keep some punters away.

By the lack of complaints from folks living around the Red Lion it appears Sgt Rob and his team have done a very good job.

I went on Friday night, it was pretty busy as usual but not as packed as I have seen. It wasn't as good as previous years, the atmosphere didn't seem quite right but we had a good time. Last night there were quite a few noisy people around at kicking out time but that's about it.

Real ale and plastic glasses? That says everything about the event!

Real glasses were available! You didn't have to have a plastic one.

Did you see any one drinking out of the plastic glasses, I can't see any one choosing to have their beer in one of them.

The Red Lion beer festival doesn't attract your usual hard core bearded CAMRA drinkers, more your local yoofs and students home for the holidays. They don't seem to be fussy what they drink out of.

So its not how the beer tastes, more like, how much they can get down their necks before they fall over festival

Have to say, I've been upset over previous years about the festival. In Particular the odd few causing vandalism, basically being horrible and anti-social and people thinking the local area is an extended Beer Garden/ urinal.

However, I don't know exactly why, but this year I have had no problem with it at all and it's not bothered me in the slightest - infact it was nice to see people enjoying themselves. Whether this is because of the not so great weather, or the scum bags have got fed up going, or the measures that the Police and Pub have put in place have worked this time I don't know. I suspect it's a mixture of all three.

I thought I saw security on the door (or gate), and presumably they have the ability to refuse entry to known trouble makers. Maybe this was the key?

in my opinion a good balance has now been struck and I just hope the following years are as well behaved as this years.

I agree with the post above.

This is the first year we have had no problems with broken glass or yobs using our fence as a urinal. We only heard a handful of groups this year, they were loudish but not offensive, just normal 'happy!' people walking home.

One much happier resident!

yep- a couple of mates went there and left when confronted with the £4 price tag. Mind you, its about £3.80 in the Crown for a pint now. No wonder people are into "pre-loading" these days (get a few in at home with friends before going on the town) ;)

Yeah but isnt there going to be a minimum price per unit being introduced in supermarkets now also. Going to cost more to drink at home soon. I can see booze cruises coming back into fashion.

As it is proposed at 40p per unit in England and a weak beer (3.5%) is about 2 units per pint how about WE impose a minimum happy to pay price of 50p per unit for beer bought in pubs - back to the good old days of a pound a pint :) - lets see how the government copes with the loss of tax revenue if we do as they suggest :D ;)

I gave the R.L. beer festival a miss this year. I went to Finfest at Findon. The Saturday evening was not too crowded & at £3 a pint made an enjoyable evening.
