God it must be enjoyable going shopping with you lot. If its so bloody horrible dont go to a supermarket, much nicer at the local shops.

By the way who will I be winding up when I shoot down the aisle resting on the trolley shouting wheeeee!

We could have a race....its so boring leaning on a trolley, hovering, while Mrs.JJ examines each items ingredients list for its 'nasties' and fat content :(

As this post hs seemed to change to a 'what to do you hate about shopping' I will step in and put by penniths worth
Has anyone notice how often people in 'expensive' cars or large 4x4 use the drop off and pick up sections of the car parks as a very convenient parking space so close to the entrance so their poor little precious feet don't have work too hard

I generally avoid them like the plague (only one trip to Tesco in the last six months ).
Of the lot Waitrose gets my vote and for a couple of reasons:
They treat their staff properly - very important as far as I am concerned for any business I give my money to.
People who work there are the most polite, and knowlegeable, of any supermarket; they could give lessons to ALL the other supermarkets.
The goods tend to be better quality.
Most of the prices are comparable to other, less pleasant, shops (I hate the word 'store' and even more so 'instore' ).
Put simply it's not so naff!

Anybody who drives a 4x4 around town - and doesn't have at least 2 sheep in the back, to prove they need a 4x4, shouldn't be allowed out of the house.

People buy cars, and other things, for many reasons; many of which I wouldn't personally approve of.
However I would never want to take that freedom of choice away from them - no matter how mistaken they are...

My personal pet-hates about supermarket carparks include:

The lack of space for walking to and from your car with a trolley, when walking back to your car with a laden trolley you have to give way to the cars, it seems to me it should be the other way round.

People driving the wrong way round, the arrows are very clearly marked!

' it seems to me it should be the other way round'

It should and is supposed to be the other way around - as indeed it is at many other places, and in many other countries.

Below is the closest reference the current and fatally dumbed down Highway Code has:

I do find this sneering at 4*4 drivers a bit tedious (alright my wife has one so I'm not exactly impartial) but I really can't see why it upsets people so much. We have a Hyundai Santa Fe, I didn't buy it because it was a 4 * 4 but simply because we wanted a large 7 seat family car with a big boot for bikes etc and I didn't like the styling of any of the MPVs on the market.

It has a 2 litre diesel engine which is the same as most family cars, cost about the same, is about the same size in every dimension apart from height and does about the same MPG (30+). It's 2WD most of the time except when 4WD is needed. While we don't take it off road (much as I'd enjoy doing so) it was really useful during the snowy weather of the last two winters to still be able to get where we needed to go, including being able to get provisions to my elderly parents who live up a steep hill.

We don't do a lot of mileage in it as it's mainly a car for family outings at weekends and holidays, wherever possible we do the school run on scooters or bikes. However, because it's a 7 seater it also means we can often take family and friends in one car rather than need two.

I just don't see why people should get so worked up about it - you don't see people targetting couples who live in big houses for their unnecessary extravagance, and these are probably more harmful to the environment than a low mileage 4*4, most of which can be recycled at the end of its useful life.

Have we really become such a small minded society that we need to resent people just because of a personal choice in their preferred mode of transport? I think there may be bigger issues we should be worrying about......

Generally, the only time they go off-road around this way, is to mount the pavement to get around the dustcart!

Must admit it does make things like that so much easier. I've even been across roundabouts and driven on verges and hard shoulders to avoid carnage and driven up to post boxes and popped it in from the drivers side window.

Suppose I should be locked up for such heinous crimes? Only other bigger crime I could commit would to be get a Hummer!

But in mitigation I do use mine to attend clay pigeon shoots which are normally held where off road terrain parking conditions prevail.

You have to drive a 4x4 to appreciate what it is like to pilot a tank with loads of grunt and an advantageous view of road conditions ahead, plus the occasional advantage in bad weather conditions.

Yes you guessed. I am the proud owner of one.

Good spot ShorRam, I noticed this in the Argus this morning, I assume the Co-op will stay, but I can;t see how they are going to include 300 parking spaces and a supermarket. The report states its the Civic center going not Frosts as previously thought, perhaps Frosts will be the car park, will be a nightmare with crossing though

Even the Civic Centre has its car park across the other side of Ham Road.

I'm really struggling to see how it's going to work.

I guess they will shut Ham Road down and the Civic Centre and the car park will become one site.

So - whats happening to Minelco / Frosts ? Cant be another supermarket ?

I agree with shorehambeach I suspect there will be a new road layout to allow for this, I seem to remember a similar thing happened when Tesco's moved into the old gas works in Hove
