Another objection from a chap in Lewis , We have had two surveys done , it will not be free you purchase a ticket as you launch there will be a barrier in place so everybody who uses it will be registered ,This will be a god send for boat owners like myself who have had enough of turning up at Ropetackle and not being able to launch , What surprises me is the amount of people who keep going on about the public hards along the Brighton road ,They are not slipways and will be a hazard if they where ,Cannot see the police letting people stop the traffic to reverse on to them on such a busy road ,We need all the support we can get lets keep the name of Shoreham as a maritime port and not a concrete jungle Local businesses will do well out of it as well which will be good for all concerned
Thanks again Paul

speaks volumes of the ignorance of trying to launch a boat the way they keep going on about the hards. I always found it ludicrous that when i was on the police diving unit we couldnt even launch the boat here even though we were based here. If you go up on the medway towns they have similar sized slipways and they are always well used by boat users and fisherman and children fishing. There is always a large amount of wildlife on and around them as well

People just see a gap and think it is a slipway ,But until you go and look yourself and see the access to them plus the mud which has built up over the years you would know why we are wanting a new slipway , I have myself been to plenty of harbours over the years and they have 2 or even 3 nice slipways ,And there was a queue at the one in LOOE nice car park for cars with trailers as well ,The Arun has a few nice slipways as well , Shoreham has the worse access i have ever seen lovely river but you cannot get on it

Strange definition of controversial. 14 objectors and 24 supporters, still if it sells a few papers.

Thank you.

hard is excatly that a hard surface allowing you to get to the waters edge on firm land. A slipway allows you to get the boat and trailer all the way into the water to launch it, whatever the tide.

Hope that makes sense

I think it's privately owned.

The slipway by the Bridge is on the Duke of Norfolk;s ground ,The public Hards are all the roads that use to go over to Shoreham beach,Now under a hell of a lot of mud ,Plus the river bed has built up , Some people who objected 2 from Lewis and 2 from Southampton must be spoiling there view me thinks,This will be a major step forward for the use of the river and the use of the sea . Thanks again everbody for your time and support

I've just found this forum and realised I'm not the only one wanting to launch a boat and wondering where and how to go about it. I can see you've been busy and are having some success. May I add my name to those calling for a decent public hard in Shoreham. Please keep me up-to-date with the progress.
