Might be easiest to post the initial film list here, rather than sending out lots of emails.

Just a suggestion.

Do you have a copy of Fight Club ?

Only kidding - welcome to the boards.

Ha ha.

And yes, welcome. You'll find that despite having a bit of a laugh and occasionally poking fun, we're a friendly bunch. Usually.

There have been film clubs in Shoreham for many years.

Pampas Grass Productions is just one that springs to mind.

Yes I'd wondered at the reluctance to publish the proposed film list on the boards and the insistance of having to email in first.

A compilation of email addresses of potential punters?

No. Merely a newbie poster reticence to push the boundaries of her technology. I'm sure we'll get a list when ready.

I wasn't sure if it could not be done via a PM from SBS rather than ones own personal email?

I'll try!

PM sent to 'Film Club Chair' requesting details.

The proposed list of films from Joan. Looks good :-

FILM CLUB

Join our Film Club today to see films such as:

The Artist A most heart-swellingly, joyful, 2011 film — this French romantic drama is in the style of a black & white, silent film and is the story of the relationship between an older silent film star and a rising young actress.
The Outlaw Josey Wales Director, and star of this 1976 film, Clint Eastwood delivers the first of his great revisionist works of the genre ……………… Unfortunately the past has a way of catching up with you!!!!

A bout de Souffle Directed by Jean Luc Goddard in 1960, A bout de souffle (Breathless) is one of the most influential films of the Nouvelle Vague. Now a classic, it is a “Must See” for any true lovers of the cinema.

Mrs Henderson Presents Stephen Frears directed this 2005 film, which stars Judi Dench, Bob Hoskins & debuts Will Young’s acting career. It records the events at the Windmill Theatre through the war years and the decision to have all-nude revues.

All About Eve With 14 Academy Award nominations – this not to be missed 1950’s film has Bette Davies in the role of a Broadway star. (Thoughtto be based on Tallulah Bankhead.) This classic story of ambition & betrayal, also stars Anne Baxter & George Sanders.

The Servant Written by Harold Pinter, this intrepid, independent 1963 British film sheds a seamy and shocking light on the crumbling of the British upper class. Stars Dirk Bogarde , Sarah Miles, Wendy Craig and James Fox.

War Horse Steven Spielberg’s 2011 film follows the hugely successful stage play. It tells the tale of the enduring bond between a horse & the man who trains him. The horse is sold to the army during WW1 & the film follows its subsequent journey.

The Remains of the Day Smart, elegant, and blessed with impeccable performances from Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson, The Remains of the Day is a Merchant-Ivory classic produced in 1993.
Last of the Blonde Bombshells Charming in every way, this 2000 film is perfect if you’re in the mood to feel good and love jazz music. This award winning film brings together a list of highly acclaimed actors and actresses and some wonderful music.

My week with Marilyn Directed by Simon Curtis, the 2011 film, stars MichellleWilliams, Eddie Redmayne & Kenneth Branagh and shows the tense interaction between Olivier & Marilyn Monroe during the production of the The Prince and the Showgirl.

Le Grand Bleu Written & directed by Luc Besson in 1988, Le Grand Bleu (The Big Blue) has a big cult following and tells the story of two men who answer the call of the ocean.

A Kind of Loving A classic1962 British drama, directed by John Schlesinger & based on Stan Barstow’s novel. Starring Alan Bates and June Ritchie, it portrays the story of a couple who marry in haste and then make do with a ‘kind of loving’.

The main thing that would stop me going (sorry Joan) is the really bloody uncomfortable seats at the ropetackle.

It's not so bad if you are going to a comedy or music event, because you can shuffle a bit, and there's usually an intermission.

But sitting there to watch a long movie? I don't think my bum could stand it.

So other than the lack of parking, the seats, the poor website and projector that's not as good as your LCD at home - it's a great venue.

Maybe, as it is likely to be low audience numbers, they could encourage people with a "bring your own Beanbag" performance?

I was at a small cinema in the US where the seats were cheap but comfortable office directors chairs, on castors with small tables alongside for drinks. It was an inspired idea, and so you could cluster and view as you desired.

It would certainly worth flagging up the first performance here on the forum. If you have a film poster too, we can post that up for you.

And people say that I post things that are too negative! (*)

Some of the small screening cinemas in London (often in the basement of hotels) are sublime. Maybe 100 seats at most, huge, comfortable (red leather the last one I visited), and with drinks trays in the arms.

P.

(*) has anyone noticed that I've been trying not to do that for the past month or so? If not, if no-one HAS noticed, I might as well go back to being as grumpy as the other Paul O!
