Adur Older Persons Network

As a Commmunity Engagement Worker for the Adur Older Persons Network (AOPN), my colleague, Peter Hornsby, & I are employed to identify and assist local groups and organisations who help or involve older people. We can also signpost individuals to local services including a specialist health and wellbeing team. We are also responsible for finding supportive volunteers and our team can provide professional help with fundraising, business development and publicity.

Volunteering opportunities can range from tea-making – writing – driving – shop assistant – befriending – sharing hobby skills – cooking – organising – gardening – doing accounts - dog walking – fundraising  etc

How to get involved !

Local opportunities can be viewed at the national website www.do-it.org.uk Just type in your postcode for an immediate local list!

They notify the local Volunteer Centre who also have the opportunity lists on www.adurvoluntaryaction.org as well as the relevant forms.

These are available for registering new groups, their volunteer requests and those individuals interested in volunteering.

The Volunteer Centre is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9.30 to 2.30 pm at Chesham House, 124 South Street, Lancing  BN15 8AJ

Some current vacancies from the Volunteer Centre

  • Hosts willing to welcome a small group of elderly guests and their driver- helpers into their homes once or twice a year for Sunday tea.
  • Contact the Elderly Adur
  • Helpers to assist at club for people who have suffered strokes. Held  on Fridays 2 to 4pm. Adur Stroke Club Southwick
  • Escort for the WRVS Meals On Wheels hot meal service to homes of elderly/ housebound persons.
  • Treasurer to keep a local association’s books and attend bimonthly committee meetings. West Sussex Association for the Disabled (WSAD)
  • Social Organiser to assist with organising the club’s Monday meetings in Lancing at Holy Family Church Hall Lancing and Sompting WSAD
  • Charity Shop Assistants required by Guild Care in Shoreham and Cancer Research in Southwick
  • Telephone Support Volunteers to assist carers via a helpline offering a one to one Call Back service to carers in own their homes. Carer can talk to an understanding listener.    Emotional Support for Carers across Adur
  • Experienced Computer Operator to join team recording and duplicating audio tapes and CDs on Tuesday evenings for approx 3 hours.
  • Adur Talking News Shoreham
  • Audio Tape Assistant to check cassette tapes following production and person to pick up sack of tapes and take to post office.
  • Adur Talking News Shoreham
  • Dog walkers, short term fosterers, etc to assist elderly, people in hospital or incapacitated with caring for their animals.
  • The Cinnamon Trust across Adur
  • Escort for the WRVS Meals On Wheels hot meal service to homes of elderly/ housebound persons. Across Adur
  • Day Centre Assistant to provide a range of activities (art & crafts/cookery/ computers) in a friendly day centre.  Glebelands Day Centre  Shoreham
  • Tea Trolley Person to take the refreshments trolley around on Tuesday and or Thursday afternoons to grateful staff and clients. Glebelands Day Centre Shoreham
