We felt that we would give the people of Shoreham the opportunity to let us know the people you most admire within the town. Those people that have helped you above and beyond the call of duty. We will list those people here and a short story about how they helped each individual. Please click here to send in your suggestions.

ImageChurch Street Dentists - Paul Haggqvist, Sharon Boomer & Fiona Wilson - tel: 01273 453229
Having been totally terrified to phobia level of dentists for most of my life - due to a very scary experience with the "Butcher of Nottingham" aged 14 - I was getting to the stage that my teeth were in a bad way and the pain was becoming a joke, effecting my life on a daily basis. I plucked up the courage to call the Church Street practise and was met by the soothing Scottish tones of Sharon Boomer asking me the problem and immediately understanding the phobia issue - Sharon used to have a similar problem - arranged for me to to seen AFTER hours that day - SUPERB CUSTOMER SERVICE.
I duly arrived, sweaty and terrified at 5pm and was met by Sharon, Paul - the Dentist & Owner of the practice - and Fiona the nurse. Imediately there was an atmosphere of calm and relaxation and as I made my way up stairs to the "CHAIR", I knew this wasn't the Butcher of Nottingham at all - I could do this and conquer my phobia. I'd given up smoking last year so this must be easy - it was !!!
Paul and Fiona were FANTASTIC, calming me down when I became nervous, stopping at anytime during the procedure and chatting about everyday things to take my mind off the task in hand. I duly went through 4 local injections, 1 filling and one "saving of the tooth" - that I thought would have to be removed, all without screaming, punching the dentist or losing it in a BIG WAY !!!
This may not seem a tall order to many however without the fantastic support from Paul, Sharon & Fiona I could not have gone through the procedure at all and I thank all three of them from the bottom of my heart for helping me the way they did.

ImageFred the Street Cleaner
I would like to nominate Fred, our street cleaner. He's out there, in all kinds of weather, doing his best to keep the streets clean, working hard in difficult circumstances. He also helps people and always has a kind word when you stop and talk to him. He's a gentle man and I hope he gets lots of recognition.

ImageMark The Barman at The Waterside
We would like to nominate one of my staff Mark. Over the last 8 weeks he has been raising money for cancer research by volunteering to dress up as Dr Frankenferter (Rocky Horror Show) and actually work behind the bar for the whole evening.
With the customers aware of what he was prepared to do for this charity they got behind him and supported him with all the raffles he arranged and i am glad to say that he exceeded his target of £500 and actually raised a fantastic £700.00, so, on the 30th April, totally ignoring all the banter and grief he stuck to his word and dressed up and paraded around the bar all evening.
We think his achievement was fantastic and deserves a mention for his bravery.
Thanks

ImageThe Vets & Staff at Coastway Veterinary Clinic
I would like to nominate the wonderful vets and staff at Coastway Veterinary Clinic at 67, The High Street, Shoreham. Last Saturday, the 7th May, our wonderful little diabetic cat Simba, went to sleep there, cradled in my hands. The vet and her assistant were extremely kind and thoughtful as we blubbed through the sad event, even insisting on posting the bill rather than waiting around. Yesterday we received a hand written sympathy card from the vet herself, a nice touch, especially as the bill has not come yet either.
So thank you all at Coastway Vets, you have our vote and deepest thnks.
Steve & Linda Coppard
