Thirty anglers from across the country gathered in Shoreham over the weekend for a friendly beach fishing competition. The event was hosted by a local sea angling club, The Shoreham Angling Squad. As well as keeping the West arm at Shoreham harbour clean and safe for anglers and public alike, they raise money for their adopted charity, The Teenage Cancer Trust. The trust is trying to raise funds to build a new treatment centre in Sussex for teenage cancer patients.
On Sunday (pictured) club Chairman Steve Smith handed over a cheque from the club for the sum of £850 to Helen Haynes from the TCT.
Since the Shoreham Angling Squad's creation one year ago, they have raised a staggering £2000 for the trust by holding fishathon events and collecting donations from fans at Brighton and Hove Albion football matches.
The anglers will be with the trust next Saturday at the Brighton and Hove Albion football match at Withdean Stadium, collecting donations from football fans to raise even more money for the new medical facility.
