Ropetackle Festival Series Selling like Hot Cakes PDF Print E-mail

Richard DurrantOrganisers report tickets for  the  Ropetackle Festival Series -thats  31 events in the Adur Festival  are selling well . There's been a  fantastic start to ticket sales this year with the charitable trust, in the first week  recieving  £3000 in ticket sales.

Organiser Geoff Hodgson says "If you are planning to go and see Festival favourites in the Marquee this year at the Airport or Lancing College get your bookings in. " Herbie Flowers in back and so are the Blockheads and comedy names Jeremy Hardy and Richard Herring, Folk giants Waterson & Carthy play and Guitar maverick Richard Durrant will be  launching the festival at Lancing College with his concert on June 1st"

THE ROPETACKLE SERIES 2007 31 events in the Adur Festival

Paul Austin KellyThe first public event at Shoreham’s newest 200 seater venue The Ropetackle Centre will be a screening former

US Vice Presidents Al Gore’s award winning film "An Inconvenient Truth" on Saturday
2nd June. The award winning documentary premiered last summer and is the third

highest grossing American documentary in the box office.

Tim Loughton MP Chair of the Ropetackle Centre Trust which run the arts and business

centre, says " The screening is a thought provoking way to open our doors and

appropriate too, considering Shoreham’s film heritage. Film is to be an important theme of

the new Centre"

The Ropetackle team which ran last year’s Adur Festival’s Marquee series after working

together on the Adur Festival steering group for many years
includes local arts names..

Louise Durrant, Martin Allen and Anne Hodgson. Martin says this year they are thrilled to

finally have the towns permanent venue as a base and still be able to offer diverse

events in the Marquee on Shoreham Beach Green, at Shoreham Airport and of course at

Lancing College where the festival will begin with our own renown
ed guitarist RichardDurrant’s concert on 1st June.

All together the trust is staging 31 events between the venues including a return for The

Blockheads, BBC2 Richard Herring from "Fist of Fun" , Radio 4 name Jeremy Hardy.

Folk legends Waterson and Carthy and a welcome return from Herbie Flowers and Jack

Cryer. ( full listings on www.ropetacklecentre.co.uk) Not only those names but our own Richard Durrant performs

for the second year at Lancing College with an opening concert on 1st June.

He will be joined by the Cirrus Ensemble and tenor Paul Austin Kelly.

Durrant is enjoying his most successful year to date with performances all over the

UK, an appearance as guest soloist with the RPO late in June  and even a radical new guitar

being named after him. The Lancing College concert will feature the premiere of his

new work for guitar, flute, viola, cello, tenor and electronics. Durrant will also be

joined by the Cirrus Ensemble for a performance of his seven movement "Rucenitsa"

quartet, inspired by eastern European folk music.

Singer Paul Austin Kelly has worked and recorded with Durrant on many occassions

including a featured broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Paul has sung all over the world

including performances with Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden and La Scala. For

this concert the two will perform Benjamin Britten’s folk song settings for guitar and

high voice. These were written for and first sung by Peter Peers who is a Lancing

College old boy…

The concert will be enhanced by live camera work and projections directed by award

winning, Shoreham beach artist Malcolm Buchanan-Dick.

Erincaceous, the owners of Shoreham Airport agreed to be the main sponsor of the

Ropetackle Series donating £10,000. Events organised by The Ropetackle Trust now

form the majority contribution to the Adur Festival in its 20
th year.

Other sponsors include Urban Life, Satair, Capital Solutions , Spofforths, DMH Stallard,

Rajah restaurant, Centre events, Business Health rescources and Maharajah in Bramber

and Astac.
