Ebay sale to boost funds for Beach Dream's 'star' Saroo PDF Print E-mail
Written by Laura Raymond - TailorMade Radio

ImageSince Saroo’s visit to Shoreham as one of the Beach Dream’s International volunteers, there’s been lots of activity to raise funds for the street and working children Saroo works with and to help him study further for an MA in Social Work. As a former working child himself now at 21 he has glowing references for his campaigning to stop child labour firstly from the founder of the Born Free International Arts School and from his university Principal at St Josephs College in Bangalore.

We are aiming to raise enough money to fund 2 teachers for a year to work with street and working children through the Born Free International Arts School and to fund Saroo’s MA .

The Appeal has been going great guns recently and we raised £93.00 at the Beach Dreams Book Sale. The book stall will be appearing at Beach Dreams this year as we had lots of stock donated. Many thanks for all those who gave books to sell, especially Graeme & Jan Carter.

We now have a new total of £2,024 of the £4,800 target being raised so far and £1,400 of that has already been delivered directly to the Born Free Art School. A further £500.00 is heading to Bangalore with Tony Stubbings, who is going to meet Saroo and pay his deposit for his M&A course at St Josephs College.

We have several emails and photos of the Born Free Art School children, so please click on the Read More link below for more details.

If you would like to donate to this very worthwhile cause, simply click on the donate button found on the top right of each page of the site

How will we raise money via ebay

A business ebay account has been set up and we have started to sell items; they are entered in online and then bids are received within a specified time- frame. Post is charged on top of the amount of the winning bid.

How can you help

Saroo Street Children Appeal
Saroo by Nikki Attree
If you have just one small item— maybe an unwanted gift CDs and DVDs are ideal—as long as its postable we would love to put it up for sale. We will collect items.

Please Telephone  Laura to collect from you 01273 441728 or email her on This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it Everything will help us get to our target.

How are the funds being managed?

A special account ‘the street children fund’ has been set up by Jon Potter Julie Pearce and Laura Raymond with Lloyds bank, any funds raised are banked immediately . Cheques will be taken out to India personally via Tony Stubbings, a local photographer who is committed to helping the fund. He works in a neighbouring region of India and is travelling across the country at his own expense to ensure the finances reach their destination. He is taking the first cheque next week. ( £1400 the first cleared funds )

Thank you for taking the time to help

The Saroo Appeal Update 17th January 2007:
An Email from John Deveraj, founder of the Born Free Art School

Dear Laura
We  got into much difficulty when we were denied the place in the school we were operating from But fortune smiles and good work pays We adopted a very poor Government school located in the heart of the city on an acre plot of land. We have began its reconstruction and ressurection with many young people, volunteers working and recreating. The Bornfree schools have always been built with peoples participation and contribution. The work is in full swing now. I shall be sending you picture as we go by. We are creating dance floors wall to wall mirrored to teach ballet for the kids, sculpting sheds, painting galleries, play areas, clean toilets with good water supply. It is needing a lot of support.
Warmly
john
