Please make cheques payable to Streeet children fund This year if you were one of the thousands that took part in Shoreham's Beach Dreams weekend you will have seen 21 year old Saravanna Chettiar. He rode atop the colourful elephant in the parade and performed a traditional Indian dance for our entertainment - As an international volunteer travelling over from Bangalore with Portslade Charity Concordia, Saroo the name we got to know him by - brought something more than a colourful spectacle. He packed in his belongings his own photographs of street and working children .. just a few of thousands of youngsters across India that live and work on the streets.......
Saroo grew up selling flowers to fund his education his mother still sells bananas on the streets. As a volunteer helping these children Saroo wprks as a part of the Born Free International Arts School. He has been described by the founder of the school John Deveraj as ' my best ambassador " Through the work of this school Saroo and many others who volunteer there help give hope and direction to street children by bringing them into their classrooms. The school is described as working for the liberation of toiling children. Now studying at St Josephs College in Bangalore, Saroo is also hoping to take an MA in Social work.
Help us get this off to a fantastic start and join us for the evening . the Beach's own maverick guitarist Richard Durrant is performing a set Splash FM's Karen Morton, the lady of the lilting Irish voice will be MC for the night, The Beach Dreams dancers will start of the dance floor to round off the evening in true Bollywood style with Splash's David Cunningham playing the tunes. Auction and raffle too !
Our Guest of honour appropriately will be Tim Loughton MP not only our local MP but shadow Minister for families and children. Dress code ! Dress for an Indian Summer - Saris or suits anything to impress !
Tickets including buffet and welcome drink and all this fab entertainment £15 per person. ( £8 of this pays for food and welcome drink - £7 goes directly to the fund for Saroo.
